Dorset Chamber Opera

was founded in 1990 and has given numerous successful opera performances over the years. It is a small, non-profit making company, which has at its core a group of professional and semi-professional singers, some of whom have sung with the best opera groups in the country. It has toured Dorset and the South West, including venues such as country houses, The Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis, The Regent Centre in Christchurch, and The Octagon in Yeovil, performing fully-staged operas in costume, usually in English and to a piano accompaniment.

DCO is recognised as a company dedicated to the art of singing and the production of fine, small-scale operatic performances. It has raised in excess of £20,000 for charity throughout Dorset over the past fifteen years.

Opera Romantica

Harmony to enhance any celebration.

Let the unique qualities of the human voice transport your guests. Robert and Ruth will sing your choice of love-songs and duets for your special occasion.

Ruth Hastings, soprano, and Robert Eshelby, tenor, had busy solo careers before joining forces to explore the wide repertoire of love-songs from opera and operetta.

Robert was a principal tenor with Queensland Opera for three years before joining D’Oyly Carte Opera, while Ruth was busy combining principal roles in opera with oratorio and concert work. In the past nine years, they have regularly appeared together throughout the region in leading roles for Dorset Chamber Opera. Their repertoire ranges from Bach to Bernstein, including sacred and secular music alike. They perform sublime religious settings by Handel and Mozart, sumptuous love duets by Puccini and Verdi, or light-hearted offerings by Lehar and Gilbert & Sullivan. They can offer ethereal harmony from Monteverdi’s Coronation of Poppea, intensely moving extracts from la Traviata or La Boheme, well-loved moments from West Side Story …..

Robert and Ruth are available for weddings, celebrations and other functions. They can sing during the signing of the register, provide after-dinner entertainment or full concert programmes.
